I’ve decided to leave my long hair and the wine bar behind. A much needed fresh start for myself and as a chef. These past few years and odd months has been pretty crazy and a reckless one too. The restaurant and bar industry can be cruel and unforgiving but I still liked the challenges that came with it. I never back down.
You know it’s time to leave when the owner of the establishment doesn’t care as much as you do. It’s time to get out! So I did. With no other plans whatsoever. I dug myself into a hole. Taking up cash jobs here and there till I finally went broke. I had to think really fast.
Boosted my resume and with many great friends in the restaurant industry, I immediately landed a position as a chef for a Japanese Italian style bar and grill. A very posh place to work at. Just as I’m typing away on this blog, I get a call from a manager of an Okinawan Izakaya(pub), to work for them part time as they already know that I have the skills as an Okinawan cook. Hooray, more work! The timing could have not been any better
I also had to better myself. I haven’t been taking care of my body, mind and soul. Excessive bar hopping, drinking and eating, not good. The past few months I’ve been doing and continue to do circuit weight training, yoga, praying, meditating. So far I’ve packed a few more pounds of lean muscles but need to work out the abs a bit more. I do feel much better though
Oh BTW, I cut my own hair for the first time ever! I though to myself, if I can cook, create a new dish, fix a toilet, a carburetor, wire up a fan ceiling & spot lights, why not cut my own hair? It’s not as good as a pro stylist but I wanted that classic somewhat 40′s – 50′s look. I went retro lol! I do miss my long hair a year back but this do is more manageable and less shampoo, dry time lol.
I’m going to enjoy my 4th of July weekend with friends and family then seriously get back to into full gear, work. There is much work to do right now. Crab cake sliders with remoulade sauce or perhaps a braised pork belly bao bun anyone? Just a few ideas at work. Have a great week and a 4th of July weekend as well. Aloha!
